Letter from J.K. Griffin to Dr. J.H. Davis, re Davis' subscription to the [United States] Telegraph [a Washington, D.C., newspaper], praising political beliefs espoused by the editor [Duff Green (1791-1875)], which were compatable with Griffin's, expressing his approval that Davis and King's other constituents were subscribing to the Telegraph, "the proper Source" for reliable coverage re the proceedings of Congress. Griffin notes concerns re duties and the tariff, speculation re the ratio for representation, and comments on three rival factions in Congress - the "Van Buren-Jackson" men, the "Calhoun-Jackson" men, and "the Clayites, "--Reflected in election of the Speaker of the House, and reporting that J[ohn] C. Calhoun had not yet arrived due to severe weather.
